KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Former national badminton coach, Wong Tat Meng expressed his thanks to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh for her support as he continues his recovery from a motorcycle crash in Australia.

He posted on Facebook today that he was touched by the concern shown by Hannah and the National Sports Council (NSC).

“My most sincere thanks to YB Hannah Yeoh, Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister and the NSC for the flowers and concerned words.

“I’m very touched to have received their support even as I’m undergoing rehabilitation in Australia. Your support inspires me to continue to remain strong and recover fully,” he wrote.

Hannah meanwhile said in a statement today that her gesture was a sign of support and to mark his contributions to the country’s sports field.

“I wanted coach Tat Meng to know he is not alone, not forgotten and that Malaysia remembers his contribution for sports and wants to see him back on his feet soon. A simple gift to lift his spirit,” Hannah said.

Tat Meng, 58, was involved in a motorcycle crash on September 7 along Putty Road, Garland Valley.

Besides the national badminton squad, Tat Meng also coached professional men’s singles player, Lee Zii Jia, till he won the bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris before they parted ways last December. — Bernama
