Johnny Britt – From his performance last week in Jacksonville, NC

*Acclaimed singer, trumpeter, songwriter, producer, and author Johnny Britt is bringing his powerful story and music to Canton, Ohio, this Presidents Day, February 16 at 7:00PM, at the Cultural Center, 1001 Market Ave. N. During Black History Month, Britt will share his family’s deeply personal journey through mental health challenges and healing.

Johnny Britt wrote his mental health awareness song “C’est La Vie” after spending eight years witnessing his daughter Mariah’s struggle with mental illness.

“It was literally a nightmare for my family and me,” Britt says. “I never would have thought in a million years that something like this could happen to us. I knew absolutely nothing about mental health until it affected the love of my life – my daughter.”

While 2025 was a landmark year for Britt professionally, “C’est La Vie” remains the most meaningful song of his career. His latest French-inspired album, Midnight in Paris, produced a Billboard Top 10 single with the title track, “Cherie Je T’aime” earning Song of the Year with three months at #1 on the Connect Brazil charts, and his song “Emotions” has been nominated for a 2026 Indie Soul Award.

C’est La Vie was also submitted for the Grammys’ Harry Belafonte Social Change Award, which ultimately went to RAYE’s “Ice Cream Man.”

Britt recently returned from performing at the London Jazz Festival, with stops in Paris and the South of France (Britt is fluent in French). He has also recently performed in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and will appear at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., Louisville, Kentucky, at 7:00 pm on Valentine’s Day. Still, Britt says he is most excited about his appearance in Canton, Ohio, where his goal is to offer hope to individuals and families dealing with mental health challenges and addiction.

The event, titled “Sound, Soul & Healing,” is produced by the EN-RICH-MENT, a community-based Arts Education after-school program. After EN-RICH-MENT Co-Founder and Executive Director Betty Smith heard Britt’s story and the song he wrote for his daughter, she immediately invited him to share his experience as a parent and to speak openly about the impact mental health challenges have had on him and his wife of 40 years.

“I’m doing this to help the young people throughout Northeast Ohio,” Britt says. “I want them to know they are not alone.”
